As a conclusion they all agreed that the product is the best both for business users and home users and all “will be amazed at how simple and powerful the controls are, allowing much versatility in very little setup time”.

Questions and Answers related to Cyclope Employee Surveillance Solution

October 30, 2007 18:37

Here is a list of frequent questions related to Cyclope Employee Surveillance Solution that our support team receives:

Q.1. Does Cyclope server support installation on IIS6 with both .NET framework 2.0 and .NET framework 1.1 installed?
A.1. Yes – but depending on the server OS. It will work well on XP pro and Windows 2003 server (with ASP .NET 1.1 web service extensions enabled). The server does not run on Vista.

Q.2. How to uninstall the client?
A.2. In order to uninstall the client application you have to run an application named SystemRestoreUninstall.exe from C:\Windows folder. The application will ask you for a password which is: cyclopeadmin (if the client application can connect to the cyclope server) or cyclopeadmin123x which works if the client application cannot connect the server. The uninstall password (which is by default cyclopeadmin) can be configured from the product administration pages.

Q.3. How to change the connectivity and the precision on client after it is already installed?
A.3. Go to C:\WINDOWS\SysRestore, run SystemRestoreConfig.exe, modify the settings and restart the workstation.

Q.4. Is it correct that licenses for 20 users will cost 600 USD?
A.4. Yes – for 20 users the license cost is $600.

Q.5. What is your policy about the Cyclope new version updates?
A.5. The license is permanent and the upgrades are free for 1 year. A subscription for updates (after the first year) cost 30% of the cost of the initial license.

Q.6. At work, we are using Mercury (currently HP) Quality Center (QC) extensively for preparing test plans, test runs, bug tracking etc. It is a web application accessed through IE. Is it possible to distinguish various activities of each user in QC?
A.6. The client application monitors IE activity. It will probably show the aggregated activity on the Mercury Quality Center. A customized version can be provided (shows the activity on each page – not aggregated on a domain – like it is for Firefox or Opera). This can be provided free of charge because such a release is available upon request.

Q.7. Is it possible that my firewall or antivirus blocks the communication between the client and the server? What should I allow (except for the port 7879) so that the communication is not blocked?
A.7. It might be possible but – when you install the client application – when you press Test server connection – you should allow the connection for the LAN and also after you install the client application (after 30 seconds) the monitoring will start and you should also allow the client application to access the LAN as well.

Q.8. Is it possible to filter a statistic report not only based on period of time but also based on another field?
A.8. No. Not in this version. Next release will include this feature.

Q.9. How can I set a default sorting order for the statistics? For example I'd like to see the reports always sorted in alphabetical order of the application, document name or URL name.
A.9. The reports are by default sorted by quantity. By clicking on the table header you can change the order but it will not be saved (as a view).

Q.10. Is it possible to group the report based on a value?
A.10. The reports are aggregated by users groups. No other value can be used for groping the reports.

Q.11. Watching video in full screen mode does not get recorded in the log
A.11. That is probably caused by the fact that you have been idle during watching the movie – so the logs should display this information. A user is idle after precision multiplied with idle factor (by default 3 * 15 = 45 seconds).

Q.12. I'd like to be able to delete (or exclude) part of the log that I'm not interested in. For example downloading a file Firefox generates tens of lines in the log - almost for each percent of the downloaded file. How can I do that?
A.12. It is not possible. In this way the results will no longer be accurate.

Q.13. I intend to backup the log files on a daily basis. How do I restore them in case of a crash?
A.13. It is easy. Backup the folder C:\Program Files\Cyclope Server\Logging daily and if a crash occurs, install a fresh copy of Cyclope and restore it in the same location.

Q.14. I our company, we do employee performance reviews and appraisals every six months. If I regularly backup the Cyclope log files and delete the actual log files older than 3 months, is there are way to extract the statistics from the backups for the performance reviews?
A.14. Yes – it is possible – if you install a Cyclope server on a different computer, you overwrite the Logging folder (C:\Program Files\Cyclope Server\Logging) with the one in your backup and you can see (aggregate) older statistics.

Q.15. What happens if the Cyclope server is shut down or crashes? Will the data collected on the clients be lost?
A.15. Well – if the client machines are NOT restarted than the answer is yes (i the server is down for a short period of time than the logs will be available). The client applications store the logs temporary in memory is the server is not available.

Q.16. Our working hours are not fixed from 9 to 17. Our working time is floating, the only requirements is to be 8h. Meaning that one can come to work at 7:30 and leave 15:30. Does Cyclope supports floating working time when calculating the overtime?
A.16. Yes sure – see the Overtime report for each user / group. If I did not understand correctly your question please provide me more details.
